POLO IN BARBADOS
With over a hundred years of history in Barbados, the recent opening of three new world class polo fields and a very promising future, polo is played to a very high level in Barbados. There are several first-class matches played between local teams throughout the polo season which
runs
from December to April and a number of international polo teams also visit to take on the Barbados polo team.
During the 2007 season, one of the most exciting games occurred when a mixed team from the UK, led by International referee Peter Wright and assisted by Scotland’s former Captain Allister Archibald, beat a Bajan team in a hotly contested shoot out, with a score of 2-1. Teams on the calendar to play in the 2008 season include USA, Canada, and Mexico. One highlight will be the Battle of the Sexes, the local ladies tour scheduled for April.
