The Country Club Course at Sandy Lane, Barbados hosts a new Guinness World Record
Golfer Breaks Record with 54 Birdies in 12 Hours and Raises Funds for Children in Barbados
"Sandy Lane and the Country Club Course were very pleased to be a part of Mr. Sandeman's Guinness World Record," said Sandy Lane General Manager Robert Logan. "But most importantly, we are thrilled that he chose to use this opportunity to give back to the children of Barbados through Sunshine Village."
Sandeman, a pro golfer who now resides in Barbados, first played Sandy Lane's golf course at the age of 10. While he did not play competitive golf from 2006 to the beginning of 2009 due to a hand injury, he realized in March 2009 that there was no previous record for "The Most Birdies in a Day" and sent a proposal into Guinness World Records to recommend the new category. Sandeman dedicated the end of 2009 to training for the feat. Golf officials from the Barbados Golf Association were on hand during his 12 hour session, as was a cameraman to record his achievement.
"Preparing for the 'Most Birdies in 12 Hours' record required stamina, skill and most importantly mental fortitude," stated Sandeman. "It has been very exciting to set this record in Barbados and on a course which has meant so much to me since I was a child. I'd also like to thank the golf community in Barbados for so generously supporting me and the Sandy Lane Charitable Trust."
Sandy Lane offers golfers of all skill levels an unforgettable experience with 45 holes of golf on three spectacular courses: The Country Club Course and The Green Monkey, both designed by Tom Fazio, and the Old Nine golf course. The Old Nine Course is intimate yet challenging, as it winds its way magically through the old estate. The exquisite par-72, 18-hole Country Club Course is designed by Tom Fazio as his first course outside of the US, and features lush greens, five lakes and lovely open fairways with angled slopes. Tom Fazio also created a masterpiece with Sandy Lane's third course, The Green Monkey, which is carved out of a former quarry with dramatic elevation changes and spectacular views of the Caribbean Sea. The course is named after its namesake, the Bajan Green Monkey and aptly features a bunker with a grass island carved in the shape of a monkey. One of Tom Fazio's most magnificent and exciting designs yet, the course comprises five par threes, five par fives and eight par fours.
